Fellows end a week of learning – 2009

Business journalists and professors spent the morning packing in several final sessions on topics like ’24 Hour Business Coverage,’  ‘Finding Business in Every Beat’ and ‘Investing in a Time of Uncertainty’ before wrapping up the seminars with a certificate presentation.

Business Journalism Professor Fellow Tracey Franks, a freelance financial writer and editor based in San Diego, Calif., said the seminars were like graduate school for future professors. “The level of expertise and experience will be invaluable as I move forward, as well as the contacts with people from throughout the country,” she said.

Richard Clough, a reporter at the Los Angeles Business Journal, said the Strictly Financial Seminar will allow him to reassess the kinds of stories he pursues and how he approaches his reporting, particularly for investigative stories.

“The Strictly Financials Seminar is a great program for business reporters who are relatively new to the field, as well as those who have been covering it for decades,” Clough said. “The program provides valuable insight into a broad array of financial topics. Perhaps even more important however, the program offers usable ideas to reporters looking to improve their business coverage.”
