Has shooting video stories become part of your job as a business journalist? Here’s a chance to hone your skills as a multimedia journalist by shooting a business news video in a day.
Under the expert instruction of Arizona State University TV-production specialist Brian Snyder, this intensive day of hands-on training will equip you with the skills and build your confidence to shoot business news videos. No previous experience with video is required. You don’t even have to bring any equipment. Cameras, tripods and editing equipment will be provided.
By the end of the day, you and your partner will have reported, shot and edited a 1.5- to 2-minute video. Snyder will even burn your story to DVD for you to take home.

Brian Snyder, ASU TV-production specialist, teaches how to use a video camera.
Registration is limited to 20 journalists, who will shoot videos in pairs at predetermined local businesses.
This free pre-conference session is part of the “Become a Multimedia Business Journalist” track at the Society of American Business Editors and Writers annual conference from March 19-21 at ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in Phoenix.
Other sessions include a free pre-conference session from the Reynolds Center on the morning of March 19 on how to look natural on-camera, plus a session during the conference on March 20 on how to produce a podcast, and one after the conference on March 21 on taking compelling business news photos.
