Sometimes drama is exactly what a story needs

Bring on the drama

Diana Henriques of the New York Times questions full disclosure requirements in writing about Fidelity National Financial’s failure to disclose pending lawsuits.

Henriques’  story tosses in interesting case details, noting:

“And while title insurance and escrow accounts do not seem like the stuff of white-knuckle drama, the legal adventures that gave rise to the San Diego cases would keep “Law & Order” rolling for months.”

Today’s Tip: Don’t omit the drama.

The addition of information about Rollo “Rick” Norton provides details readers want, especially when they realize their own information could have just as easily been stolen.

The balancing act here is to avoid getting so caught up in the drama that your focus becomes unclear. Find the juiciest nuggets and stick with them.
