Finding ways to give stories new legs

Kristina Shevory writes a New York Times story about unemployed architects and designers shifting careers as jobs in the field drop.

The lead of the story features John Morefield, a designer who set up a Peanuts cartoon-style booth at farmer’s markets in Seattle to offer advice for 5 cents. His story made the circuit last year after a Post-Intelligencer story and an NPR Morning Edition segment. The owners of Coolhaus also have been featured in Time magazine and other publications

Today’s Tip: If you find an interesting story, study it to find a new angle.

Kristina expanded Morefield’s and Coolhaus’s stories by finding others in the industry to illustrate the trend. Giving a story a second look also gives readers updates. For instance, who knew Morefield’s booth could lead to more than $50,000 in income?
