CNN’s Stimulus Project getting lots of play

If you’ve been watching CNN in the last week, it is unlikely that you’ve missed their latest focus: The Stimulus Project.

One year after the stimulus plan was enacted, CNNmoney is looking into where the $4.7 trillion has gone and whether those projects are actually creating jobs and helping the economy.

Chief business correspondent Ali Velshi can be seen pulling up tweets, emails, and facebook messages from viewers suggesting projects to look into. Personal stories from real people are also shared, from the good to the bad.

CNN has recruited a team of their best investigators, and named the temporary department, “the stimulus desk”. They also have sent out their All Platform Journalists to stimulus projects across the country to report on how it’s affected the local people and economy.

Yesterday, one of the correspondents brought the viewers to the “stimulus desk” and showed a slew of thick binders which he explained were all the stimulus projects their team was investigating. As the story unfolds, viewers are learning that some of the stimulus money has gone to positive means and some has gone nowhere.

With all the figures CNN’s stimulus team has produced, they have created an interactive map of where the money has gone. The interactive stimulus tracker is comprehensive and easy to use, breaking down the stimulus spending in a way that everyone can understand.

This project comes before the January 30 release of stimulus data by the Recovery Board and gives viewers an early look into who is being helped and who is abusing the system.

By utilizing their team of talented financial reporters, cnnmoney.com has produced an all-platform investigative project that would impress even those uninterested in the financials or the state of our nation’s economy.
