This hands-on session will teach you how to record and produce a business news podcast. It is part of the “Become a Multimedia Business Journalist” track from March 18-21, which is scheduled before, during and after SABEW’s annual conference at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in Phoenix.

The podcast session will be held from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, during SABEW’s annual conference. Guided by Mark Moran, news director for Phoenix public radio station KJZZ, attendees will visit a local business, record audio and create a podcast. Bring your own audio recorder or borrow one from the school. Previous experience with audio recording or podcast production is not required.

The class is limited to 20 participants who will work in teams of two.

1:30-2:30 p.m.: How to capture audio– Mark Moran

2:30-3:30 p.m.: In the field at an area business recording audio

3:30-4 p.m.:  How to edit audio–Moran

4-5:30 p.m.: In the lab editing audio into a podcast

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Mark Moran

Mark Moran is the news director for KJZZ, Phoenix’s public radio station. He has reported for national and international news agencies, including the BBC, CBC and Voice of America.

Moran recently won two first-place awards from the Arizona Associated Press in the categories of Best Use of Sound and Sports Reporting.

Please do not register unless you are sincere about participating. Our workshops are often oversubscribed. Signing up and not participating deprives someone else of the opportunity.

Participants can choose to take some or all of the sessions. Anyone who completes at least three of the four sessions will receive a “Circle of Achievement” award certificate from the Reynolds Center, denoting his or her participation in the multimedia sessions.
