The Knight Digital Media Center at the UC Berkeley j-school is offering scholarships for a week-long training program, March 21-26, for journalists wanting to strike out on their own.

Participants of the workshop will come away with knowledge about how to set up a WordPress blog, the finer points of SEO optimization, how to video, how to use data visualization, and details about digging into Google Analytics.

More details: Web Publishing for Independent Journalists workshop. Application deadline is Feb. 17.

If you want to focus just on multi-media training, the Reynolds Center will have a similar workshop at almost the same time.

  • Become a Multi-Media Business Journalist workshop will be in Phoenix right before and during SABEW’s annual convention. It includes photography, producing a video business story, looking good on camera, and producing a news podcast.
