Marketplace Money uses simple videos to explain complex economics
Marketplace Money Senior Editor Paddy Hirsch does a series of Marketplace Whiteboard videos to simplify current news topics, such as hefty bank earnings, with whiteboard sketches and narration.
For instance, he explains bank earnings by illustrating how a boy could borrow money from his father and lend it to his mother to earn interest. He likens that example to banks getting low-interest money from the Federal Reserve and lending it at higher interest rates to make money.
Today’s Tip: You don’t need high-production values to produce a teaching video.
The videos last about five minutes and feature just Paddy in front of the whiteboard. You, too, can do videos or Soundslides presentations to help your audience grasp economic news.
The New York Times offers similar lessons with its Economix blog , which it describes as “Explaining the Science of Everyday Life.”
