SABEW 2010 conference Phoenix

Time is running out to get cheaper hotel rates for the Society of American Business Editors and Writers conference March 19-21 in Phoenix.

The deadline to get the $155-per-night rate at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel is 7 p.m. EST Feb. 16. The Sheraton is about two blocks from the conference site: Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Other nearby hotels include Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Inn, Hyatt Regency Phoenix and Wyndham Hotel.

Registration for the conference by Feb. 28 is $299. The conference schedule includes sessions on writing business news for the Web, using social media for better coverage, and developing sources inside companies.

The Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism is offering a free track before, during and after the conference on “How to be a Multimedia Business Journalist.” All sessions in the track are hands-on.

The first session in the track is a daylong one on March 18 called, “Produce a Business News Video in a Day.” It’s followed on the morning of March 19 with “How to Look Natural on Air.”

During the conference, on March 20, SABEW registrants can attend “Produce a Business News Podcast,” and after the conference, on March 21, the Reynolds Center will offer “Take Compelling Business News Photos.”

The multimedia sessions before and after the conference are free. Through March 1, SABEW registrants get priority for the limited spots available.

Separate registration is required for all sessions in the multimedia track; click on the links above to register for the individual sessions. Those who complete at least three of the multimedia sessions will receive a Circle of Achievement award certificate, noting their accomplishment.
