TheStreet.com contributes $50,000 to Dave Morrow Prize at SABEW

Dave Morrow

TheStreet.com has matched the personal donation of $50,000 made by its co-founder Jim Cramer to a SABEW fund honoring its former editor, Dave Morrow, who died Feb. 1 of cancer.

Morrow left the financial Web site last year after eight years to become the first Donald W. Reynolds Endowed Chair in Business Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno. In that role, he was a contributor to BusinessJournalism.org.

He was also a board member of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers. SABEW’s Dave Morrow Prize for Audacious and Talented Financial Journalists will provide both college tuition for promising students aspiring to careers in financial journalism as well as for students or young journalists seeking to attend SABEW’s annual conference.

Tax-deductible donations in the form of checks can be made payable to the Dave Morrow Prize and sent to SABEW, University of Missouri – Columbia, School of Journalism, 134 Neff Annex, Columbia MO, 65211-1200. Make credit-card donations by calling SABEW’s Vicki Edwards, (573) 882-2878.

The Reynolds School of Journalism in Reno will host a memorial service for Morrow on Feb. 26, and his family plans a memorial on March 20 in Spartanburg, S.C.
