Just because you own a video camera, doesn’t mean…
Gawker TV has a funny post today on how NOT to apply for a job.
The first example is a young man from Minnesota who compares himself to the ketchup needed on a dry, dull sandwich. Lest you feel old-fashioned, out-of-date with your resume printed on nice paper stock, Gawker compiled eight videos to show you how some in the younger generation are doing it. And it’s not always pretty.
The reason I’m showing you these is not to make fun of them (although entertainment sometimes is reason enough), but because it reminds me that having the tools is not enough. Just because you have a video camera, doesn’t mean you know how to use it or are good in front of it.
The Reynolds Center can help. We are sponsoring a multimedia journalist track ‘Become a Multimedia Business Journalist.’ The track includes four sessions – before, during and after SABEW’s annual conference in Phoenix in March.
Included are ‘Produce a Video Business News Story in a Day’ and ‘How to Look Natural On Air’ .. both sessions that these job applicants would have found useful.
I’ll let Gawker show you the rest.
There’s no shortage of how not to apply for a job.
