Grants offered for local investigative projects

Fund for Investigative Journalism logoThe Fund for Investigative Journalism has a new grant program that is available to investigative reporters working on local and regional issues and in ethnic media newsrooms. Grants will average $5,000, and the first deadline for applications is April 5. The program is funded by a $100,000 grant from the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation in Oklahoma City

The fund, based in Washington, said on its Web site that it anticipates financing 15 to 20 investigative projects with the grant.  ”This grant will address a pressing need for watchdog reporting in regions where newsroom cutbacks have hollowed out investigative staffs and in communities covered by the ethnic media,” said Brant Houston, president of the Fund.

Here’s the application form.
