A nationwide training initiative designed to improve and encourage the quality of business journalism training at the university level enters its third year at the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism at Arizona State University.
The weeklong "Business Journalism Professors Seminar" for 12 prospective instructors from around the country will be held Jan. 6-9, 2009 in Phoenix, Ariz. Applications are now being accepted for fellowships that cover the full costs for those whose applications are accepted.
This seminar will cover the essentials of teaching a hands-on course that includes financial, economic and writing aspects. It is an opportunity for prospective business journalism professors to learn from experienced instructors and journalism professionals, with follow-up after the seminar ends as well. The scholarships cover hotel, meals, materials and training, which are valued at $2,000 per person. Those participating also will receive a $500 travel stipend.
Applicants for the Professors Seminar must provide:
(1) a letter explaining their interest in teaching business journalism
(2) a resume
(3) a letter of support from the school or department outlining the program's interest in teaching business journalism.
The application deadline is postmarked by Nov. 3, 2008.

ABOUT THE CENTER
The Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism, located at ASU's Cronkite School, was launched in 2003. Programs include daylong business journalism workshops, weeklong online seminars, one-hour self-guided tutorials and business journalism coverage at BusinessJournalism.org.
