There were eventually 409 volunteers for a buyout that included a year's pay. That is more than 50 percent of the non-union work force of 756. The company said it needed 200, and would accept up to 230.According to the article, sorting out whom to grant a buyout to, and whom to reject, could take the rest of the month to complete.
With so many people trying to quit with a package it is going to be a big headache for Publisher George Arwady and Editor-in-Chief Jim Willse to put out the paper.
