Journalists should be interviewed regularly

One thing I love about the Internet is that there are no borders. This blog from Canada caught me eye today.

John Longhurst, of the Canadian Journalism Project, finds that being interviewed can help reporters understand how sources feel.

His post:
All journalists should be interviewed regularly.

As Longhurst puts it, "those who do the interviewing likely seldom think of how it must feel to be at the other end of the process."

He came up with this idea as he interviewed Margo Goodhand, The Winnipeg Free Press editor, who he described as uncharacteristically nervous when they sat down.
When pressed, Goodhand admitted this was only the second time she had been interviewed herself.

"It felt absolutely bizarre," she said later.

We should all feel so bizarre sometimes.

I love the concept of getting the interviewer back in the interviewee seat on a regular basis. As we develop in the business, we tend to use the same techniques over and over and become "one trick ponies". This would force us to remember some of the basics we may be neglecting. Thanks for the note, Ed.
It is always helpful to get out of our comfort zones sometimes, isn't it.
Thanks for the link to your blog. I'll pass that along:

Conduct knockout broadcast interviews.
