Learn about Europe's economic crisis in Brussels and Frankfurt


The European Journalism Centre is hosting a seminar titled "The Global Role of the Euro" for business journalists from Sept. 1-4 in Brussels and Frankfurt.
The seminar will cover:
  • How Europe has handled the economic crisis
  • How European currency has protected European economies
  • What the economic policies of the European Commission and the European Central Bank will be like in the future
Participants will meet with representatives from Brussels think tanks as well as European Commission and European Central Bank officials. Participants will also get to meet European business journalists. Reporters from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore and the U.S. will all be in attendance.
The seminar will be conducted in English and the European Commission will cover the cost of travel, accommodation and some meals.

The Fed's Global Plan

The Fed and four of the world's top central banks-the Bank of England, the European Central Bank, the Swiss National Bank and the Bank of Canada-are moving toward injecting cash into money markets. In today's announcement, the Fed says it will establish a temporary Term Auction Facility, in which "the Federal Reserve will auction term funds to depository institutions against the wide variety of collateral that can be used to secure loans at the discount window. " The first two auctions, one scheduled for Monday and the other December 20, will inject up to $40 billion into the markets.
