Be the Editor in Charge in New York

Thomson Reuters needs a full-time editor in charge in New York to lead its legal and restructuring teams in America, Canada and Latin America.
The editor will head coverage of business and economics, including the aftermath of the financial crisis, through different journalism teams. The selected applicant will oversee the planning and execution of large enterprise projects ranging from
depth coverage of a niche business sector to investigative reporting on financial scandal. The editor will also be responsible for developing an editorial relationship with Westlaw Business.
Applicants should have:
  • A college degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 7 years' experience at a major news organization.
  • A background in financial news.
  • Knowledge of financial accounting, legal affairs and editorial technology.
  • Experience in leading journalism teams to produce breaking and in-depth news.
  • Previous experience developing sources and breaking news.
  • Multimedia production skills.
  • The ability to collaborate long-distance.

Join Thomson Reuters and lead its new multimedia service's coverage

Thomson Reuters is looking for a planning editor to work at its bureau in New York.
The planning editor will develop and execute a long-term editorial agenda for a new multimedia service catering to professionals in the finance industry. The editor will work with Reuters News, other planning editors on different assignment desks and Thomson Reuters Markets' business divisions to find and prioritize major news events for the service to cover.
Candidates should have a thorough understanding of financial markets and financial data.
They should also have at least five years' experience at a news organization that serves finance workers. Editorial experience is preferred and experience in buy/sell side research or a certification in financial markets are a plus when applying.

Edit on the Company News desk for Thomson Reuters

Thomson Reuters is looking for a Company News desk editor at its New York office.
The editor will edit top corporate news stories of the day and create wrap-ups from multiple articles with different datelines. The selected applicant will also work with reporters throughout North and South America, mentor new journalists and offer his or her expertise for training courses. The editor will also have additional leadership responsibilities, such as overseeing major projects.
Applicants should have a bachelor's degree and at least seven years' experience at a major news organization. They should also have an understanding of financial issues and be willing to embrace change in editorial technology. A background in multimedia is a plus in applying for the position.

Investigate financial crime in Washington D.C.

Thomson Reuters is looking for a reporter to cover financial crime in Washington D.C.
The journalist will become the senior correspondent for financial crimes in Washington. He or she will be responsible for:
  • Reporting on the fallout from the recession and bailouts, including civil and criminal prosecutions as well as investor lawsuits.
  • Helping lead a team of financial crime correspondents in multiple states.
  • Traveling to cover cross-border stories in places like London, Zurich and Hong Kong, working with journalists and editors in foreign countries.
Applicants should have at least five years' experience at a major news organization with a background in breaking major news. Knowledge of financial accounts is required. Candidates should also be comfortable building sources in multiple organizations and with computer-assisted reporting.

SABEW names Watson executive director

Warren Watson is the new executive director of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, an organization that serves business and financial journalists.
Watson is a veteran newspaper editor, the former vice president and acting co-president of the American Press Institute and most recently, the directly of a non-profit initiative for journalism high school students, J-Ideas, which is housed at Ball State University.
He replaces Dave Beal who has served as the organization's interim director since last fall.
