Journalists in the southwest who want an inspiring start to the New Year can sign up for a day of illuminating talks and hands-on training with the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism.
The new workshop, offered on Jan. 4, 2018 at ASU’s Cronkite School in downtown Phoenix, features Pulitzer Prize-winning reporters and top financial experts. The sessions are designed to give journalists the modern tools they need to improve their coverage of business and the economy.
Speakers will include Bloomberg’s Tom Contiliano, a renowned trainer who has taught hundreds of reporters how to use accounting red flags to find the hidden stories in public filings. Joining him is David Davick, the former head of investor relations at Gap, Inc., who will provide insider tricks for scrutinizing public businesses.
Pulitzer Prize-winning data journalist Sarah Cohen will share her tips and strategies to help investigative reporters mine datasets—invaluable sources for today’s newsrooms. And Walter “Robby” Robinson, who led the Pulitzer Prize-winning “Spotlight” team in reporting the Roman Catholic Church sexual abuse scandal, will deliver the lunch presentation.
The day-long workshop concludes with a networking Happy Hour, giving attendees the opportunity to connect with their colleagues from Arizona and beyond. Free lunch, free parking and access to Pulitzer Prize winners—consider it a holiday gift.
